National Marrow Donor Program
About Be The Match’s support of the SIERRA clinical trial:
The National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP)/Be The Match®, the nonprofit organization that operates the national Be The Match Registry® of potential volunteer blood stem cell donors, will provide support for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients who are candidates for the SIERRA clinical trial through expanded search of unrelated bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) donors.
The NMDP/Be The Match’s assistance will include screening donors for their interest and availability and provide customized human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing to determine HLA match grade.

Patient Assistance Grants
Drs. Jeffrey and Isabel Chell Clinical Trials Travel Grant
The Drs. Jeffrey and Isabel Chell Clinical Trials Travel Grant, in partnership with the Jason Carter Clinical Trials Program, provides financial help to qualified patients (blood disorders/cancers), who need help paying the following costs to travel for clinical trials:
- Patient and companion air travel: booked by dedicated travel agents
- Ground transportation: gas/parking and public/mass transit (bus/train/cab/etc.)
- Accommodations: hotel, temporary housing and incidentals

Being diagnosed with a blood cancer can leave you feeling alone, there are many aml support group opportunities to help both you and your family. To learn more about the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS’s) support groups please contact your local LLS Region.

The logistics of doctors appointments and other health related appointments can be difficult to manage. The American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program can match you up with a volunteer driver. Call 800-227-2345 to see if you’re eligible and to book a ride.
Patti Robinson Kaufmann First Connection® Program
This program helps newly diagnosed AML patients connect with a trained peer volunteer who has gone through a similar experience with AML. If you wish to speak to a First Connection® peer volunteer, please fill out the online request form. Someone from LLS will contact you by phone. Requests can only be accommodated for individuals who live in the US or Canada.
